Vintage/Tasting Notes:
The 2022 vintage is the most elegant year of Cabernet yet of our wine. After a short time open, it shows herbaceous aromatics, blackberry fruit that give way to a silky finish that invites another sip, and pairs with with versatility due to understated tannins and it’s buoyant fruit profile.
2022 was an atypical year due to an unprecedented heat spell for 10 days in early September — late ripening vines like Cabernet Sauvignon in the cool-ish Santa Ynez Valley seemed to go quiet for several weeks to recover. Therefore ripening was delayed and we saw more floral and herbal qualities in the Cab along with lighter bodies wines — even though it wasn’t harvested until early November.
The wine was on the skins for 3+ weeks to frame the finish with a little grip. The wines were aged for 12 months in neutral oak barrels. Soil is a clay-loam in a fairly low lying area with cool mornings, but it is more easterly and gets plenty of warmth.
2022 is the fifth vintage of Two Notes, a collaboration between multi Grammy winning jazz musician Ted Nash and jazz vocalist/certified sommelier Kristen Lee Sergeant. Kristen’s background in fine dining and Ted’s native Californian heritage (and creative spirit) make this a labor of love, the fruits of which are best served fermented.
